Use Plants With Different Roles
Sunflowers help generate the sunlight needed for continued planting. Peashooters provide ranged attacks, Wall-nuts protect important positions, and explosive plants can deal with groups when a lane becomes crowded. The important part is how these roles work together. A defensive plant can buy time for an attacker, while resource-producing plants allow the formation to expand as the wave progresses.
