Scores are proportional to distance. The key is not speed, but stability. Focus on keeping the sled in the center of the lane as much as possible, moving only enough to avoid obstacles. A "boring" but safe play will usually score higher than a reckless play.
All sleds have the same basic speed and handling. The difference is purely cosmetic. The "best" sled is the one you feel most comfortable with, as confidence and comfort also affect performance.
Practice foresight. Don't just look at the point directly in front of your car. Keep scanning the horizon of your screen to spot threats early, especially snowballs rolling in the distance, so you have enough time to plan your move appropriately.
